Dr. Franz Chop translated the Averroes’s Fasl al-Maqal (Legality of philosophical Investigation under Islamic Law) into German in which Averroes stresses the legality of studying and working in philosophy and logic. He compromises the Islamic law (Shariah) with philosophy. Averroes synchronized, in this book, the human intellect with faith refuting any clashes between them. The translator managed to honestly translate the contents into German and maintained the spirit of the original text although it had a number of linguistic and semantic obstacles. The translator had contributed to his text by inserting explanations and descriptive comments. He followed well the bi-lateral method of translation taking into account the linguistic differences between Arabic and German languages.  The work represents one of the means to introduce the Arabic-Islamic thought and civilization and to enhance the dialogue between cultures.
